This is the true story of Tomaso Bindotti as supplied to me in the form of a three page, A4 typewritten document. Tomaso was an Italian foundling discovered by the roadside in the Piedmont region of Northern Italy in the winter of 1887. Taken to a Roman Catholic Orphanage in Rapallo, run by cruel nuns, he suffers the wrath of the holy ladies for the slightest infringement of their rules. He is later fostered out to 2 brutish, cattle farming brothers who mistreat and beat him he finally runs away and lives a feral life until he is picked up by the police and returned to the orphanage and taken to hospital. Eventually he makes his way to England and to the notorious slums of Angel Meadow, Manchester where he is employed by an ice cream making, Italian family. In 1911 he his called back to Italy to fight in the Italo/Turkish war, in which he is wounded and sent to Cagliari, Sardinia to recuperate. After de-mobilisation from the Italian army he makes his way back to England and his old job with the Rocca Family, then in 1914 Germany declares war on England and he feels duty bound to enlist for his new country. After the great war his adventures continue when he marries and then volunteers to fight for the Black and Tans in Ireland.
